James Muehlbauer, better known as "Jamie," is a retired North Tonawanda Police Lieutenant with nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the City of North Tonawanda and the State of New York. With a distinguished career in law enforcement, a strong record of securing funding for the city, and a deep commitment to public safety and community service, he is now ready to bring his leadership to City Hall.
Muehlbauer’s law enforcement career began when he self-sponsored through the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy in Jamestown, New York, graduating in January of 1996. He was then hired by the New York State Park Police, Niagara Region, as a seasonal police officer for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP). He also served two summer seasons (1998 and 1999) as a deputy sheriff with the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department Marine Unit.
In December of 1999, Muehlbauer was hired full-time by the New York State Park Police from the New York State Civil Service Eligibility List. He attended their new police academy held at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, New York. After six months of residential training, he was assigned to the Niagara Region, which covered state parks in Niagara and Erie Counties. In 2001, he returned to the academy for its second session, this time serving as an academy counselor. In this role, he was responsible for mentoring and supporting a group of 10 recruit officers, while also assisting in the daily training and discipline of the full group of 80+ recruits.
On March 1, 2002, Muehlbauer joined the City of North Tonawanda Police Department. Over his 22-year tenure with the department, he served in numerous roles, including Police Officer, Honor Guard member, Accident Investigator, Fire Investigator, Bike Patrol Officer, Marine Patrol Officer, Peer Counselor, Group Crisis Intervention team member, Grant Writer, and Detective. He spent seven years assigned to the Niagara County Drug Task Force and later held the rank of Road Patrol Lieutenant. In his final three years, he served in the Training Division as a Lieutenant.
Muehlbauer’s leadership and service earned him multiple prestigious awards and commendations, including the North Tonawanda Police Distinguished Service Award, the North Tonawanda Police Officer of the Year Award, and the North Tonawanda Police Chief’s Award for Job Excellence in 2024.
Today, Muehlbauer owns and operates a licensed private investigation and security consulting firm based in North Tonawanda.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Muehlbauer is a devoted husband to Jolynn and a loving father to Tyler. His strong family values drive his commitment to addressing the concerns of local families. His platform focuses on fiscal responsibility—ensuring taxpayer money is used wisely—while supporting first responders, enhancing city services, and promoting economic development that benefits all residents in the long term.
He believes in strong, common-sense leadership that prioritizes the safety and well-being of the community. As Alderman, Muehlbauer pledges to ensure that tax dollars are managed effectively, neighborhoods remain safe, and the city continues to progress.
He is enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve and looks forward to engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and sharing his vision for a stronger North Tonawanda in the months ahead.
